tête-à-tête
“It’s not often that a fellow artist sits you down and tasks you with articulating your creative journey and mission, but that is precisely what Harry has cultivated with his visual (and transcribed audio) series. This project sheds duel light on what it means to work as an individual, as well as a member of our Chicago community. If you focus in on one of Harry’s pieces, you get an intimate glimpse at an artist’s unique narrative and point of view. Pull away and consider the series as a whole, and you are presented with the pulse of Chicago’s art scene - capturing the essence of our industry.
It is quite an apt positioning: I’ve always felt like Chicago differs from other city’s art scenes due to its nature of collaboration over competition. On the whole, I’ve felt support has been prioritized over success. We work best when we consider our peers to be our collaborators and an extension of each other’s audiences. Hence, this marriage of individual and partnership is an intuitive pairing.
With this series, each artists’ vulnerabilities are pooled into a shared experience, gaining strength from its myriad voices without undermining the individual, irreplaceable narratives. The crisp visual portraits overlaid with transcribed interviews offer a clean and minimalist focus, only enhanced by the scale of the prints. There is nowhere for the subject to hide and thus, the spectator is offered untethered intimacy. To be immersed in a gallery of Harry’s prints feels as if you’ve received an invitation to an evening salon with a fabulous guest list, a fascinating and authentic conversation possible at every turn.
And of course, it is hard to mention this series without thinking of the long-term archival impact. Harry is assembling a visual time capsule that has all the potential to mature into a beguiling glimpse of Chicago’s art scene. And I already enjoy thinking about revisiting these works 10, 20, and 50 years down the road.”

b-bop
b-bop is a collection of improvisations and abstractions reimagined from the original series tête-à-tête …
with these pieces, I’m experimenting with concepts and techniques that are less traditional then the ones I’ve used for the past thirty years. They allow me a way to express a completely different side of my creative process and experiment with printing techniques that reflect the process in which they are created.
the road
on the road combines distinct locations that I have visited and documented through photography. These combinations alter and abstract the original context. This new dialog allows the viewer a subliminal and personal connection which is open to interpretation based on personal experiences
